발표주제: Need Analysis and developing a glossary for Pharmaceuticals

발표내용 (Abstract)

As global pharmaceutical industry including Korean pharmaceuticals has been
extended significantly, activities of reaching the global market as well as the
amounts of export to the EU and US market have been sharply increased in Asian
countries. In other words, employees who work at the pharmaceuticals have more
opportunities to use English for their job performance, especially documentation
work. Even there are lots of glossaries in medical science, clinical medicine
and pharmacy, however, a few glossaries or the reference book which deal with
specialized terminology in pharmaceutical fields. For this reason, employees
tend to get confused what terminology they have to use in a specific context
appropriately, also it brings misunderstanding or misinterpretation.
The
purpose of this study is to find out the needs, analyze the terminology from the
international standard guidelines which they need to comply with, and develop
the English-Korean glossary by considering both technical and semi-technical
terminology. Collecting the terminologies from the standard resources and
categorizing are critical steps to develop the glossary because it helps the
employees to look up the terminologies quickly and easily, acquire meanings and
definitions appropriately in the specialized contexts, and make use of
terminologies for job performance immediately.
To develop a glossary of
pharmaceutical manufacturing, this includes 1) administered need analysis
through the online questionnaires and semi-structured interview with workers
from pharmaceuticals sites 2) evaluated existing glossaries in the market 3)
collected technical and semi-technical terminologies from the standard
guidelines as FDA, E.U, and WHO, 4) categorized and arranged terminologies in
English and Korean.
